Each Day We Get Better or We Get Worse

Thursday, April 14th, 2011 | exercise routines, exercise tips, used fitness equipment with Comments Off

We always promise ourselves that we are going to get in shape for the summer. All winter long we stuff our gut and think how we have so much time before we have to be ready to go somewhere nice and put on a swimsuit. Today is April 13 so you better get your but in gear if you have not been putting in time on your treadmill.

As long as you start working out tomorrow morning and yes that is tomorrow morning, you will be doing better than you were doing the day before. Each day, we either get better, or we get worse. Therefore, as long as you try to improve your health every day, you are getting better. When you wake up tomorrow morning, create a reality in which you are determined with a new found focus and passion to get in shape and change your health on your own. Take your body from hell to heaven. Only you can do it. Nobody can exercise your body for you and the last thing you want is for your fate to be determined by drugs and medicine. Create a path laid with healthy eating habits and an approach towards physical fitness that resembles the way a professional athlete approaches his or her games. While you lift weights and perform numerous repetitions, stay alert and not just physically engaged, but you must be entirely dedicated mentally to performing the exercise at hand. Those who go tot he gym and wander around aimlessly, fail to understand the necessary mentality one must have in order to perform at a high level in the gym. Distractions are purely detrimental and one can not overstate the importance of setting goals for when you work out on your home gym, at the health club or whatever arena you like to exercise in.

While we are on the topic of distractions, I must take back my earlier statement when I labeled distractions as purely detrimental. I have personally found that it really helps to watch some sort of entertainment while doing cardiovascular exercises. Almost all cardiovascular gym equipment these days has dedicated monitors for TV viewing, some even have DVD adaptors. It seems to be much easier for me to complete my entire workout, whether it be 30 minutes or 3 hours, time just seems to go by much faster when I am watching TV when I run or bike. Last time I was at the gym (yesterday, I went and checked out the 360 Gym in Reseda, CA) 99% of the cardiovascular gym equipment had its own dedicated HDTV monitor. From what I can remember, the new StairMaster 7000PTS have their own TV for stair climber. I don’t think they are called the SM 7000PTs anymore. Actually, I know they’re not, they new 7000PTs are called the SM 916 StepMill. Either way, they have their own TV for each machine. The new Life Fitness 95X elliptical trainers also have their own TV sets. It is actually more difficult to think of a new piece of cardiovascular fitness equipment that does not have its own entertainment center built in. Not only does the new LF 95 series of ellipticals have their own cable TV monitors, but the 95X Inspire and 95X Engage also have USB slots and iPod compatibility.

Tips and Guidelines for Purchasing Fitness Equipment

Monday, February 7th, 2011 | home fitness equipment, used fitness equipment with No Comments »

Comprehensive and thought out weight loss plans are more effective than those which are based upon short term goals. Everybody wants to take a magic pill or a secret shortcut in order to lose weight. Although most rational, intelligent minds understand that eating well and exercising regularly are the most significant factors that contribute to the level of ones health, there are still tens of millions of Americans who are in search of a way to lose weight without doing the necessary legwork in order to do so. Those who strategically design an exercise regimen for themselves are far more likely to have success working out than those who do not. It is very easy to develop an exercise program. A simple search on the Internet of various exercise programs will be sufficient on order to find at least one exercise program applicable to your situation.

Once you find an exercise program optimal for your specific situation, look for health club quality fitness equipment. Lightweight and budget fitness equipment is not recommended for any physical fitness routine. Treadmills are machines that if built improperly, will break down frequently and function as headaches, rather than vehicles towards weight loss. Elliptical machines are only beneficial for its user if the artificial stride length of the stride length naturally coordinates with the stride of its user. Fitness equipment prices have a wide range and it is crucial to understand why these pieces of exercise equipment that look so similar, can have such disparities in pricing. There are many factors that contribute to the makeup of treadmills, ellipticals, home gyms and other types of fitness equipment. Treadmills have many parts under the hood that an average fitness equipment consumer would never be aware of. For example, although we can read from the treadmill manual how many HP the motor has, it is difficult to gauge the quality of that motor. What good is a treadmill with a 3.25 CHP (continuous horse-power) motor, that only last for eight months? Clearly, treadmills that last eight months would be considered bad buys, although the budget pricing on those same treadmills, are what makes them appear as good buys on the surface. Once again, one must look beneath the surface if they wish to purchase a truly durable and effective elliptical, treadmill, or any piece of fitness equipment for that matter.

Treadmill running decks should also be the focus for analysis. Lets us not forgot, if our treadmills running deck is broken, then our treadmill is inoperable. Make sure that your running deck was built to withstand your weight capacity and amount of usage. If Julie weighs 120 pounds and plans on working out on her treadmill for 30 minutes a day, 3 to 4 times a week, then she will not need a heavy-duty treadmill running deck. However, if Sam is 6’1, weighs 250 pounds and plans on using his treadmill for at least an hour every day, he will need a treadmill with a premium running deck. Whether or not you need a treadmill with a gym grade deck to run on totally depends on the body weight and size of who is going to use the treadmill and how often they plan on using the treadmill. Take the time to analyze your own situation in order to better understand the kind of treadmill running deck is optimal for you.

Treadmill walking belts cover the running deck. Certain types of walking belts provide more cushioning for its users. These treadmill running belts are commonly referred to as multi-ply or orthopedic waling belts. Treadmill users who have knee, back, and hip problems typically have an easier time exercising on thicker walking belts. Woodway treadmills, which are industrial and heavy duty, have walking belt that are comprised of slates and can function up to 25mph. Its running belt is an astounding 27″ wide and 88″ long. On the other side of the range, we find smaller treadmills such as the LifeSpan Fitness TR 100 Treadmill, which has a razor thin walking belt measuring 16″ in width and 47″ in length. Not only is the running belt on the LifeSpan treadmill much smaller than the Woodway, but the belt is capable of only moving up to 8 mph, while the Woodway ELG can operate at an amazing 25mph. It is important to make sure when purchasing a treadmill that you are aware of the quality and specifications of all its components. In most instances, the treadmill belt and running deck are not thought about before one purchases a treadmill.

Finding the best elliptical machine can be a tough because although the quality of the machine may be sound, the stride length still may not adapt to your natural walking, jogging and running motions. If you are six feet tall, then you will not feel comfortable on an elliptical with a 16″ stride length, no matter how well the machine itself was built. The same can be said for someone that is 5’3 trying to use an elliptical that has a stride length of 23″. Although the elliptical with a 23″ may be health club quality, it does not matter how nice the elliptical trainer is, if the stride length does not conform to the natural stride of its user. Treadmills are easier to buy. When assessing the quality and performance of a treadmill, all one has to do is make sure the treadmill running deck is large enough to accommodate their leg length at full stride and make sure that the structural integrity of the framework is sound. Although it may sound difficult to determine the potential longevity of a random treadmill that you are interested in without an engineering degree, the truth is, a simple search on the Internet or first hand review from a friend who is in the know, is all it really takes to decipher the quality of a treadmill. Make sure you are thorough with your research when seeking out a new elliptical trainer. Purchasing a new treadmill is a fairly easy

Most importantly, in order for fitness equipment to function as a tool for increasing ones health, the exercise equipment that we use must be durable enough to withstand the test of time. No matter how awesome you think your fitness equipment may be, if it only lasts for short period of time before it begins to breakdown and give you problems, then it can not be a good purchase. The amount of time your elliptical, treadmill, or exercise bike lasts, is essential towards its overall quality. While there are many things that help to determine the effectiveness and quality of fitness equipment, durability and longevity are as important as any deciding factor. Make sure that the fitness equipment you plan on purchasing is rated to last through intense and fast paced workouts.

Another rule one should follow when buying fitness equipment is to not over-think the situation. Although thorough research and extensive analysis always helps, there becomes a point where you need to just realize that you need to start working out and stop what has become redundant research. People love to not work out. Many people will find any kind of excuse possible to not exercise. Do not let yourself get used to using the excuse that you do not have functioning fitness equipment at the moment. Once you identify what type of treadmill, elliptical or other fitness equipment will meet your needs, purchase it and start exercising immediately. Far too often, consumers prolong their search for fitness equipment to the point that they stop working out for an extended period of time. At the end of the day, it is not very difficult to find an effective and durable piece of fitness equipment, sure to help you lose weight and stay fit.

Used and Remanufactured Fitness Equipment

Friday, January 14th, 2011 | how to remanufacture a treadmill, used fitness equipment, used precor treadmill with No Comments »

People are often surprised when they find out the true price of their favorite treadmill or cross-trainer. Most of us expect the Precor EFX 546 we use at the gym to be around $1500 or $2000 dollars, therefore we are stunned to find out that a new Precor EFX 546 will cost approximately $6500, if we want one for our home. Due to the expensive nature of gym rated, health club quality fitness equipment, there is an immense market for used, refurbished, and “certified remanufactured” fitness equipment, for those who do not want to spend over five thousand dollars for a treadmill or elliptical trainer. From a financial standpoint, buying used fitness equipment is awesome. Precor, Life Fitness and other gym rated exercise equipment, drops significantly in price once it has been used. However, many time, these “used” pieces of fitness equipment are actually showroom or floor demo models, some of which have less than 5 hours worth of total usage. make sure you do your homework when shopping for used and refurbished exercise equipment and you will likely end up with a great deal!

Aesthetically, there are process in place to remove scrapes, scratches, rust and other unsightly cosmetic blemishes. Some out-of-box fitness equipment has never been used, therefore, the like new demo models and trade-show products, do not go through the same comprehensive reconditioning that an elliptical or treadmill that was used in a gym would endure. Examples of the remanufacturing process for used fitness equipment would include a Life Fitness 95Ti treadmill that has been used in a gym for two years. This 95Ti treadmill will be sandblasted and re-pwder coated, in order to make the treadmill appear like new. Powder coating facilities can do wonders for the appearance of used fitness equipment. Mechanically, the used treadmill would be reconditioned and serviced through diagnosing the health of its drive and elevation motors. Treadmill motors may be rebuilt, or replaced as part of the remanufacturing process.

Thorough remanufacturing work can not be complete without an in depth analysis of the electronics board. Components of the treadmill’s console (display, face, electronic board) are inspected to make sure that all of the digital feedback and programming are in perfect working condition. Through the use of scopes technicians determine whether an electronics panel needs to be fixed, rebuilt, or replaced.

Motor shrouds and plastics are replaced for a fresh, new look. This is another part of the remanufacturing process of used fitness equipment that is necessary. Plastic motor shrouds will get beat up through consistent exercise on fitness equipment. Out with the old and in with the new. Remanufactured fitness equipment requires new shrouds over its drive system.

Seasons Change

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 | 500 lb weight capacity treadmill, used fitness equipment with No Comments »

For the next several months, the sun will be setting earlier and the weather will become colder. The fall and winter months make it more difficult to exercise for us, because who wants to walk, jog or run outside when it is dark and cold? It is not fun to wake up at 6:30am, go to work from 8am until 5pm, and then run outside with no sun, and have to wear orange reflectors and winter hats. In the spring and summer, it is easy for one to run outside because it is warm and light out until 9pm, but do you have enough self-discipline to run in rail, sleet, hail or snow? There is no reason to test your limits, when it is easy and economic, to get a treadmill for your home.

Weight Loss Stories

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009 | good treadmill, Jenny Craig weight loss, used fitness equipment with No Comments »

Hello there. I hope you guys had a great holiday! With the relatives coming into town there was merriment to be had by all. Accompanied by big holiday dinners and parties. Luckily we still had our treadmill to help in these indulgent times. With all that egg nog we ended up gaining five pounds each! As wifey and I toasted champagne on new years eve. We made a mutual decison to double up on our epic weight loss bet. I kissed her at the stroke of midnight and said “its on baby”
New years day came after a long night of celebrating and i was ready to start the year offon a healthy note. I hopped on the treadmill, turned on the football game, and continued on my fitness quest. Wifey wandered in after a few minutes and proclaimed “Get off that treadmill tubby I have a pedicure in thirty minutes “What was I to do? I couldnt sit on the couch and twiddle my thumbs and I have to keep wifey happy.
She was on the treadmill and I asked her if she would be interested in getting a crosstrainer so we could as a team. She thought that would be a wonderful idea. After getting the green light I made another call to my friends at Kings Of Cardio and got the ball rolling!!
After the call we weighed ourselves. I am 11 pounds and wifey is 10 away from our 20 lb goal.
I cant believe it shes taken the lead!! She pranced around and is so delighted with her progress.
Ive got work to do guys gotta get back in the lead. I cant overstate how thankful I am to have purchased our equipment. I got a great deal on the crosstrainer and im really looking forward to being physically fit in 2010. Wifey is too. Thanks again!

Get your home gyms and treadmills tuned up and ready for the change of weather! Soon it will be cold in most parts of the country and nobody likes exercising outside in cold weather. At least most people that work for the Kings of Cardio, but then again, we get the nice and sunny weather of beautiful Los Angeles, CA.
For those of you who are not as weatherly blessed as we are here in Los Angeles, you must not stop running and walking just because it is starting to get dark earlier and colder by the day. The great thing about purchasing home gym equipment is that once you have it, your options remain open, and you can always go back outside once in a while to exercise during winter, but make life easier for yourself and get some home fitness equipment.

The most common excuse for not neing able to work out and exercise on a daily basis is “Well I just don’t have enough time in my day.” While for most of us this excuse holds merit, we fail to realize how important daily exercise really is towards our health and overall well being. With that said, you need to carve out that 30 minute time frame each and every day in order to maintain a fit amd healthy body. Home fitness equipment is so essential to those who do not have the luxury of taking 2 hours out of there day to go to the gym.  Having a treadmill or an elliptical, or any other piece of exercise equipment at home will make fitting the time to exercise in your daily routine that much easier.
